Cork City FC are delighted to announce the signing of Becky Cassin for our Só Hotels Women’s National League squad.
The 23-year-old brings a wealth of experience to the Cork City side having played six seasons in the National League with Wexford Youths. During her time with Wexford, Cassin helped the Slaneysiders to nine major domestic honours including four Só Hotels Women’s National League titles and was part of last year’s FAI Cup winning squad.Cassin has also played and scored in four of Wexford's UEFA Champions League campaigns will link up with her new teammates for the first time next week when pre-season training kicks off.
Speaking to CCFC.ie about her move to Cork City, Cassin expressed her delight at joining Cork City: “I’m delighted to have signed. This is a massive club with a really professional attitude so I’m looking forward to getting out of my comfort zone and challenging myself under new management and with new teammates. I want to help the team win trophies, that should be every player’s main goal. I want to keep developing and learning from my new coaches and teammates and just do everything I can to enjoy my football while I do it. I’m really looking forward to getting started. It’s going to be new and different from what my last six pre-seasons have been like so I’m excited to get started and get to know the girls.
Cassin recently graduated from IT Carlow with a first-class honours degree and as part of her course she undertook her work experience with Cork City FC two years ago and this left a positive impression on her: “I enjoyed every second I spent in Wexford and everyone at the club knows exactly how much they and the club mean to me, so I’ll always be thankful for the time I got to spend there. This definitely wasn’t an easy decision to make and I was always appreciate everything that Wexford Youths have done for me. I’d be lying if I said my time working at Cork City didn’t help me make this move. I spent four or five days a week with the men’s team for eight months and learned what the club is like from the inside out so I think that definitely helped in my decision. Everyone from the academies right through to the men’s and women’s team are committed and want to be successful every year so yeah that definitely attracted me back to the club.”
City women’s manager Rónán Collins feels that Cassin will be a very positive addition to the squad ahead of the new season which kicks off on March 15:“From talking to Becky she could really see the project we are developing at City and we're delighted she decided to be part of it,” he said. “She has always struck us as someone in the league that will fit exactly into what we are building because of her attributes as a player and as a person and it's great that is now a reality. She has achieved so much in the WNL already and her experience will be of great benefit to the squad. She can get on the ball and play, but also works really hard and wins it back, having that hunger matched with quality is a real asset.
