Cork City FC and Cork Credit Unions are delighted to announce an extension to the partnership of the Cork City FC Academy to 2023.
The partnership will see the continuation of the Cork Credit Unions logo proudly displayed on the front of the jerseys of the club’s academy teams, both girls and boys.
The Cork Credit Union group stretches from Bantry to Youghal with every credit union in-between included. There are over 30 Credit Unions and offices across Cork. Cork Credit Unions is the collaborative effort of a group of independent credit unions across the county, who have come together to forge stronger relationships with Cork-focused Credit Union initiatives. Credit Unions are not-for-profit, always keeping the members’ interests at the forefront of everything they do. As co-operatives, they share the same ethos as the team members of Cork City FC, helping to make this partnership such a great fit.
Cork City’s Academy, headed by former City star, Liam Kearney, comprises the club’s Under 14, Under 15, Under 17 and Under 19 boys teams, along with the girls Under 17 and Under 19 teams.
Speaking at the announcement, Liam Kearney welcomed news of extending the partnership, saying: “We are delighted with the news of extending our partnership with Cork Credit Unions, it is a partnership that has worked extremely well over the last number of years and long may it continue. The support from them allows us to continue to develop the very best local talent that we will then hopefully see progress to the first team in years to come. We have seen a lot of academy players already this year progress to the first team and you see a lot of our players getting international recognition which is great, and it is all aided by the support of Cork Credit Unions.”
Paul Deasy, Commercial Manager of Cork City Football Club commented: “We are delighted to be extending the partnership to 2023. It is a sponsorship that ties in wonderfully with what we are about as a club in regards to working in the community with families and being accessible to everyone from all parts of Cork. We want to build on the success of the partnership over the last number of years and continue that long into the future.”
Luke Casey, a representative of Cork Credit Unions, also stated: “It is great to continue our support and commitment to Cork City FC’s Academy, particularly through this very testing time because of the COVID 19 pandemic. This has been made possible by our members continuing to trust their credit union and borrow from us. We are proud to be supporting local and helping players from communities across Cork to develop their talents and play for City.
It has been fantastic seeing a number of players graduate from the academy into the first team and having a positive impact. The academy coaching staff lead by Liam are working closely with players to help them develop on and off the pitch. Through the academy players have the opportunity to realise their sporting dreams, supporting this is a great source of pride for the group. Your Credit Unions across Cork are here for you always!”
