Cork City FC are delighted to announce that Franco Umeh has signed his first professional contract with the club.
The attacker joined the club from Ringmahon Rangers in January 2020 at Under 15 level, and has progressed through the academy, making his first team league debut against Longford Town in June.
The Republic of Ireland Under 17 international told CorkCityFC.ie that: “I am delighted to have signed my first professional contract. I would first of all like to thank God for guiding me. I would like to thank everyone at Ringmahon Rangers and CSL who helped me in my time in schoolboys football, as well as Dave Moore, Dan Murray and all of the other coaches in the academy at Cork City who I have worked with. I am really excited about the future. I have enjoyed being in with the first team over the last while, and I know I need to continue working hard and making the most of any opportunity I get.”
Cork City’s Head of Academy, Liam Kearney, said: “I am delighted for Franco; he has earned this opportunity and I know he will continue working hard and make the most of it. It is a testament to the hard work he has put in, as well as the time invested in him by his coaches at Ringmahon Rangers and here in our academy. I would also like to thank our partners in Everseen, who earlier this year helped us to establish a professional player development fund, in order to help us build a pathway to professional contracts for our academy players. Franco is a great kid, with plenty of talent and a really good attitude, so I look forward to seeing him continue his progress.”
