Cork City FC are delighted to announce that Jonas Häkkinen has signed a new contract with the club.
The 23-year-old has made over 40 league appearances for City since joining in 2021, and was a regular in the side last season as they claimed the First Division title. The Canadian defender told CorkCityFC.ie that he was delighted to have signed back on Leeside for a third season: “I’m very happy to have signed back again for 2023. I am happy at the club and I really enjoyed last year. It was a very enjoyable season for all of us and, obviously, winning the league in front of a packed Turner’s Cross was a really special occasion.”
“It is an exciting time at the club right now, there is a good mood around and we are all really looking forward to next season. We only have a couple of more weeks until we are back in pre-season training, so we are looking forward to that and then building towards the opening game of the season at Turner’s Cross against Bohemians.”
City boss Colin Healy welcomed the news, saying: “Jonas has been a very good player for us since he came in. He’s a really good professional, he trains really well and he’s a very popular member of the squad. I think Jonas has got better with each season he has been with us, and I am sure he will make a big contribution next season, so we are delighted to have him back again.”
