Cork City FC can confirm that Joe O'Brien-Whitmarsh has signed for English Championship side Southampton.
The 18-year-old was one of the first academy players to sign a professional contract with the club in 2021, and went on to make over 25 senior appearances for the club.
The club can confirm that they have agreed terms on an undisclosed initial compensation package, from which City will also stand to benefit further in the future.
Cork City Head of Academy Liam Kearney offered his thoughts on the news, saying: “Joe is a very talented young player, who has progressed through our Academy, into the first team environment and has also battled back from a serious injury. He has been with the club for 5 years and it has been a pleasure to watch his development over that time."
"Everyone around the club thinks very highly of Joe, both in terms of his ability, as well as his character. This is a good opportunity for him, so we thank him for his time with the club and wish him every success in the future.”
