Mark O’Mahony has been named the FAI’s U17 International Player of the Year for 2021.

In his first year of international football, Mark became a key figure for Colin O'Brien's Republic of Ireland MU17s. Mark scored six times in 10 appearances for Ireland at that level with his form rewarded with MU17s Player of the Year. Mark also scored a further three goals for Ireland MU18s taking his goal tally to nine goals in just 12 appearances for his country in the 2021/22 international season.

Mark has continued to progress at domestic and international level in 2022. He signed his first professional contract with the club in January, was a key member of our U19 squad throughout the season and made his first team debut as a subsitute away to Longford in March.

Mark has to date scored a total of 14 goals in 16 international appearances at U17, U18 and U19 level including a hat-trick against Gibraltar in September.

Head of Academy Liam Kearney said “We’re delighted to see Mark win this award. He thoroughly deserves it. Mark has been outstanding for his club and country over the last couple of years. His goal record speaks for itself and he epitomises everything good within our Academy at Cork City.”

First team manager Colin Healy said “Mark is a player who has come through our Academy. He has done very well from Under 15s right through to this season when he made his first team debut. This award is a testament to the hard work he has put in and his performances at international level.”
