Team News ahead of Waterford game

Cork City travel to the RSC on Saturday, in search of their first points since the resumption of the SSE Airtricty League season. City returned to action last Sunday, suffering a 1-0 defeat to Bohemians in Turner's Cross, in what was the club's first league match since the trip to Richmond Park to face St. Patrick's Athletic on 6 March. It will be the first Munster Derby of the 2020 season, albeit with a very different atmosphere than previous encounters, with this weekend's match taking place in a virtually empty RSC, in line with government regulations surrounding COVID-19. The last meeting between the sides took place in Turner's Cross just shy of a year ago, and was a disappointing evening for the Rebel Army as Walter Figuera's 91st minute goal ensured the three points went back to the RSC. City boss Neale Fenn sat down with the media in Bishopstown on Tuesday, saying that while last weekend's defeat was disappointing, there is not a cause for concern: "We've lost five out of six, so supporters have every right to be negative. We can't be negative, we have to look at each game in each individual context. The game was certainly a tight game, but if you concede after three and a half minutes, it makes you take a step back. We know where we can improve, and we know that we have to improve. It's certainly not panic stations at the moment. Waterford played well on Saturday against Shels. It was a good game - there was not a lot in it, and it was a very tight affair. They got a goal and managed to protect it. They're a good team with some good players, so we'll have to be aware of that." Kevin O'Connor was also on media duties this week, and he was looking ahead to the meeting with his former employers: "They're a good side. They had a great result against Shels last week. It's a Munster Derby so it's going to be tough, but we have to make sure that we're on the right end of the scoreline. There's still 36 points to play for. These games are coming up quick, and these are the ones we need to get results from. I didn't think we deserved to lose on Sunday, we didn't deserve to win the game either, but it was a sloppy goal to give away at the start, but the performance & desire was there. It was a typical first game back, where the quality was lacking, but everybody gave it everything they could, and if we keep doing that and also bring the quality up, the results will start to come." On the injury front, City will be without the services of Graham Cummins, Gearóid Morrissey may be fit to return, and Charlie Fleming featured in Tuesday's defeat to Rockmount, so he could also be in line to feature on Saturday. Deshane Dalling misses out on this game having been sent off in a recent friendly against Cobh Ramblers.
