Team news ahead of Waterford match!
Cork City are back in home league action for the second time this week, as they welcome Waterford to Turner's Cross on Saturday afternoon. The sides last met at the RSC in August, with the game ending scoreless and both sides coming away with a point. It will be the most important Munster Derby in recent memory, with the Rebel Army desperately needing to pick up points in their battle to avoid relegation, and interim City boss Colin Healy knows that his side will face a challenge on Saturday: "We need to start picking up points, and the lads know that. We know it's going to be a very tough game. We've looked at Waterford and we know what need to be done. They've got some some good players, so we know it'll be a tough game." You'd be used to having a big crowd for a Munster Derby, and they'd really push you on, but with the way it is at the moment, but we have to galvanise ourselves, go out there and give it everything we've got." Alec Byrne was the player in the hot seat for this week's press conference, and he said: "There are three cup finals left, so we're going into each game knowing that we have to pick up points. We're training hard, Colin has instilled that in us, so hopefully we can go out and get three points on Saturday. I got a knock before the last Waterford game, which kept me out for a few weeks, but I've been biding my time waiting to get back in the team and I was glad to be back involved last week. Waterford are doing well, so we'll respect them, but we're going in all guns blazing. We have to give it our all. There are some big characters in the dressing room, so hopefully we can rise to the challenge. We're under no illusions about how big this game is, this club is too big to go down, and we all know that. We need to give it our all and that's what we're going to do." On the injury front, Healy noted that a few players picked up knocks in the last week or so, but hopes that they are not too serious, and the players will be ready to be involved on Saturday. The match will be broadcast live on the SSE Airtricity League’s brand-new streaming service, #WATCHLOI! Supporters can purchase a Half-Season Pass for just €39, which will ensure access to streams of all remaining SSE Airtricity League Premier Division matches for the rest of the season, as well as select FAI Cup ties.
