A first half Becky Cassin goal was enough to hand Cork City all three points against Bohemians in their latest SSE Airtricity Women’s National League game at Turner’s Cross.
City started the stronger of the two sides as a Sarah McKevitt run down the left wing and almost found Christina Dring with a cross into the box but Bohemians managed to block the cross and clear the chance. Dring was again on hand in the 15th minute as she struck the post with a shot from 25 yards out.
City took the lead in the 21st minute as Eabha O’Mahony corner found Becky Cassin on the back post who headed home. McKevitt almost doubled City’s advantage in the 32nd minute with a strike from distance which was well saved and City went into the half time break 1-0 up.
The second half was one of few chances for much of it with Bohemians trying to get level and they tried their luck from distance but the attempt went well over the bar. City continued to press for a second goal but struggled to create much in the way of real chances through the half with their best effort coming late in the game as Sarah McKevitt found second half substitute Sophie Liston with a cross but her header was saved.
Bohemians pressed for much of the second half pushing the City defence back but thanks to resolute defending from the City backline they failed to create much real chances and City were able to see out the remainder of the game and won 1-0.
City are back in action next week as they travel to the UCD Bowl on Saturday 10th of July to play DLR Waves in the SSE Airtricity Women’s National League with a 4pm kick off.
