WNL: Cork City 0-3 Peamount
Three early goals saw City fall to a 3-0 defeat against 2019 Champions Peamount United at Bishopstown on Sunday in City’s latest Women’s National League game. Peamount raced to an early lead with Stephanie Roche winning the ball high up the pitch off the City defence and she calmly slotted home to give them a 1-0 lead after two minutes. They soon doubled their lead as Roche this time played provider as she set up Aine O’Gorman who put it past Maria O’Sullivan to make it 2-0 after 6 minutes. City were forced into an early change as Lauren Singleton was forced off with an injury replaced by Nathalie O’Brien. Peamount however continued their excellent start as Aine O’Gorman made a good run and cross into the box which fell to Eleanor Ryan Doyle who put it away to make it 3-0 on 12 minutes. City got more into the game as the half went on with Lauren Egbuloniu setting up Sophie Liston who’s effort was well saved and put out for a City corner which came to nothing and the first half finished 3-0 to Peamount. The second half was a quieter affair chances wise as City tried to get back into the game they brought on Laura Shine for Lauren Egbuloniu on 60 minutes. Maria O’Sullivan was forced to make a spectacular save to tip a Peamount effort over the bar. While City put on a lot of pressure on the Peamount goal in the last 15 minutes they rarely were able to test McAloon in her goal with Christina Dring having the best of the chances with an effort from distance going wide. Peamount were reduced to 10 when Louise Masterson was sent off for two yellow cards late on but it was too late for City and the game finished 3-0 to Peamount United.
