Cork City fell to a 6-0 defeat against DLR Waves at the UCD Bowl on Saturday in their latest SSE Airtricity Women’s National League game.
City very nearly took the lead early on as Lauren Singleton got a volley away in the 1st minute but her effort was well saved. She again came close in the 22nd minute Becky Cassin played in Singleton but her effort was well saved by Eve Badana in the DLR goal. The hosts took the lead in the 28th minute as Katie Malone stabbed home from a corner to give them a 1-0 lead.
Malone doubled her tally late in an extended injury time as Sarah McKevitt played into Sophie Waters who laid it off for Katie Malone who put it into the top corner to make it 2-0. Before the end of the first half Malone secured her hat trick taking advantage of a mix-up in the City defence and finished well to make it 3-0 at half time to the hosts.
The hosts kept up the pressure into the second half as they got a fourth in the 47th minute after a Rachel Doyle cross Kerri Letmon at the far post who put it home. They made it 5 on 71 as Avril Brierley beat the offside trap to get a clear run at goal to slot home. Kerri Letmon rounded off the scoring in the 83rd minute as she was found free in the box and slotted home to finish the game 6-0 to the hosts.
