Cork City fell to a 7-0 defeat at Tolka Park on Saturday against Shelbourne in their latest SSE Airtricity Women’s National League game.
The hosts started stronger and got the breakthrough in the 14th minute after a sustained period of possession Jess Gargan put a box where it was met at the far post by Shauna Fox to give them an early lead. City tried to get back into the game but a determined Shelbourne defence gave them few chances with the best coming after a good run down the right wing from Nadine Seward but her effort went wide.
The hosts doubled their lead in the 38th minute as Noelle Murray headed home a corner at the back post to make it 2-0. Shelbourne continued their dominance and scored a quick fire double before the break with Jess Stapleton getting both goals after she got through the offside trap to score one on one in the 41st and 43rd minute to give the hosts a 4-0 half time lead.
Shels continued their dominance in the second half scoring their 5th in the 46th minute after an incisive ball forward out of defence found Gloria Douglas who put it away from close range to make it 5-0 to the hosts.
Gemma Quinn added a sixth in the 70th minute after she finished a corner after it deflected out to her at the edge of the box. Katie O’Dowd finished the scoring for the dominant hosts as she made it seven in the 90th minute and it finished 7-0 to Shelbourne.
