Cork City ran out 4-0 winners against Treaty United in their latest SSE Airtricity Women’s National League game at Markets Field on Tuesday evening thanks to 2 goals apiece from Eva Mangan and Lauren Singleton.
Cork City started the stronger side pressuring the Treaty United defence without creating much in the way of clear cut chances in the opening period of the game. Eva Mangan came close in the 22nd minute with an effort from 30 yards out just being forced wide by the Treaty goalkeeper.
Mangan however would not be denied for long as she got the opening goal in the 30th minute after an Aoife Cronin shot was blocked the ball fell to the feet of Mangan who struck it from 30 yards out into the bottom right of the goal to give City a 1-0 lead. City would double their lead in the 37th minute as Aoife Cronin got the ball forward to Nadine Seward who passed it into the path of Eva Mangan who slotted it home to give City a 2-0 lead at half time.
City continued to dominate with Eva Mangan coming close to getting her hat-trick with a shot from distance which went just over the bar. City were awarded a penalty in the 67th minute after Lauren Singleton was fouled in the penalty area, she stepped up herself to take it and put it away powerfully to give City a 3-0 lead. Singleton got her own second in the 78th minute after an incisive ball from deep found her just inside the penalty area and she struck it in to make it 4-0 which the game finished at.
Next up for City is a visit to the UCD Bowl as they face DLR Waves in the SSE Airtricity Women’s National League with a 2pm kick off.
