WNL: Wexford 1-2 CCFC
Cork City made it five wins in a row after a tight 2-1 win against Wexford Youths at Ferrycarrig Park on Saturday in their latest Women’s National League game thanks to goals from Saoirse Noonan and Eabha O’Mahony. City got off to the quicker start and took the lead in the 10th minute thanks to Saoirse Noonan whose ball in from the left wing beat the goalkeeper to give City an early 1-0 lead. Wexford however struck straight back from the kick off thanks to a quick attacking move finished off by Kylie Murphy to make it 1-1. City retook the lead in the 25th minute after some good work from Saoirse Noonan set up Eabha O’Mahony who struck from 30 yards straight into the top right corner of the net to make it 2-1 to City. City came close to a third a few minutes later as an O’Mahony free kick was put into the box which Wexford struggled to clear but City were unable to put the final touch and the chance passed. Lauren Egbuloniu came close in the 30th minute but her chance was just wide. The second half was a quitter affair with few real chances, Eabha O’Mahony had another effort from distance which went just over. Second half substitute Laura Shine had a chance which went just over after she was set up with an excellent cross from Zara Foley. Both sides continued to press for another goal however neither goalkeeper was truly tested and the game finished 2-1 to City.
