Women's FAI Cup: Cork City 2-0 Treaty Utd
Cork City are into the 2020 FAI Cup Final after a 2-0 semi-final win against Treaty United at Bishopstown on Sunday with two goals from Saoirse Noonan. City started the stronger of the two sides with an early chance for Saoirse Noonan whose effort from the edge of the box was saved. She however would get on scoresheet in the 11th minute when an Eabha O’Mahony corner found her on the far side of the penalty area and she fired a powerful header home to give City an early 1-0 lead. Noonan would get her and City’s second not long after with an Eabha O’Mahony free kick found its way to Ciara McNamara whose effort on goal was parried but only into the path of the onrushing Noonan who fired it home to give City a 2-0 lead. The remainder of the second half was a tight affair with Treaty United putting more pressure on the City defence but neither side was able to create much in the way of clear cut chances. The second half continued in much the same manner the first half had ended with a tight contest between both sides and few real chances. Treaty United had a half chance early in the second half but was well dealt with by Eabha O’Mahony who cleared the danger. Sophie Liston came agonisingly close to a third goal with an effort in the 67th minute but a fine fingertip save stopped her chance. Treaty United as the second half went on continued to press the City defence more and more however Maria O’Sullivan in the City goal was rarely troubled and City saw out the game which finished 2-0 to them setting up an FAI Cup Final against Peamount United on the 12th of December at Tallaght Stadium. City are back in Women’s National League action next Saturday as they travel to Greenogue to face Peamount with a 6pm kick off.
