Cork City FC are delighted to announce that Matthew Kiernan has agreed terms on his first, multi-year, professional contract with the club.
The 18-year-old joined the Club’s academy in March 2021, and progressed through the ranks before making his first team debut on the opening night of the 2024 Season.
The young defender unfortunately suffered an injury in that game, but came back into the side in August having made a full recovery.
Speaking in Bishopstown this afternoon, Kiernan said: “I’m delighted to finally get it signed. It was very tough when I got the injury, but I got a lot of help from the coaching staff and my teammates. Once I recovered, I managed to get back in the team, and here we are!”
City boss Tim Clancy said: “Matty is an exciting young player, who has really done well this season. We were very impressed with him when we first came in, and then he had the setback in the opening game - breaking his leg against Kerry.
He came through that brilliantly, and came right back into the side so we were very keen to get him signed on a professional contract.”
