Danny Murphy will bring his Cork City side to Dublin this afternoon hoping that last weekend’s international break won’t have impacted on his sides SSE Airtricity Women’s Premier Division momentum, after a recent run of victories against Peamount United and Bohemian FC, both secured with spectacular winners, a run Murphy wants to continue. “It’s a big game and a really good opportunity for us to go and see if we can show a level of consistency by getting another win, can we continue to develop and grow as a group and continue to improve.
After a mixed start to the season Rovers have gone on a solid run of form in recent months which has seen them lose just once in seven games, topped off with this week’s 2-1 win over Shelbourne in the Avenir Sports All Island Cup Semi-Final. “It’s not going to be easy” Murphy says, “Tallaght is a big pitch, and they know how to use that space really well and we have to be really well organised, we need to go up there and stick to our game plan and try to come out on top.”
The last meeting between the sides in may saw City come out on top 2-1, with Colleen Kennedy-O’Connell and Dorothea Greulich scoring for City. Murphy expects this will be an added motivation to a Rovers side who picked up five yellow cards during the contest. “Obviously, for them, the way the previous game went with us winning, they’re going to be trying to get one back over on us. It was a feisty, competitive game and I expect no different on Saturday and we’ll see who comes out on top.”
Shamrock Rovers -v- Cork City kicks off at 4pm in Tallaght stadium and can be watched live on LoITV.
